Dan Christensen's 'Late Calligraphic Stains' at Berry Campbell Gallery, New York
February 8, 2017 - Blouin Artinfo Datebook
Berry Campbell, New York presents an exhibition of paintings by late artist Dan Christensen (1942-2007) that will run from February 9 through March 11, 2017.
The selection on display looks at Christensen’s career spanning 40 years and features nineteen paintings from his “Late Calligraphic Stain” period. Employing a painting method that involved a considerable amount of improvisation and experimentation, the artist used the visual language of abstraction. From Abstract Expressionism through Color Field Painting and Minimalism, he dabbled in all themes until he had virtually exhausted them. In this series, Christensen deviated to methods of staining and drawing with pressure sprayers, spray guns and turkey basters. The lyrical aspects to a stronger, purer articulation of form and color and a broader emotional range emerged from these works.
The exhibition is on view at Berry Campbell, 530 W 24th St, New York, NY 10011, USA.
